Dieffenbachia or Dumb Cane Propagation and Care Tips


Dieffenbachia (dumb cane) is an evergreen perennial ornamental beautiful foliage decorative house plant in the Araceae family. It is mainly native to the Mexico and the West Indies south to Argentina. It's also known as dumb cane and mother in law's tongue plant. Dieffenbachia is a very poisonous plant, which can cause temporary inability to speak and skin irritation. This plant mainly propagate through stem cutting. In this video I'm going to show you how to propagate Dieffenbachia from stem cutting and care tips.
Propagation step:
1) First of all make potting mix for Dieffenbachia plant. The ratio of the potting mix is 60% normal garden soil, 20% vermicompost and 20% fine sand. Mix it well.
2) Cut any mature stem from the main plant.
3) Take a well-drainage pot and cover the drainage holes with some coconut husk or gravel.
4) Fill it with potting mix. Plant the cutting into potting mix.
5) Finally through watering and keep it partial shade place.

Dieffenbachia is a very low maintenance plant. The caring tips of Dieffenbachia plant.
First tip is light : It prefer indirect sunlight or low light condition for best growth.
Second tip is potting mix : Plant your Dieffenbachia in well drained potting mix.
Third tip is watering : Keep the potting soil moist not soggy, when top of the soil feels slightly dry then water it. It can tolerate low water conditions.
Fourth tip is fertilizer : This plant don't require too much fertilizer. Apply a vermicompost or any organic compost or liquid fertilizer once in a two months.
